Baby Shower Poem Games
Most people are put of by the thought of organizing a baby shower poem game and conjure up pictures of a dreary looking group of people sitting around reading poetry to one another. But poem games can be a lot of fun.
One way to play the game is to have each of your guests write a short (6 or 8 line) funny poem on the theme of babies and then read their poem to the other guests. The poem which raises the best laugh is then the winner and the author takes the prize.
A variation on this theme is to have a number of pre-written poems and distribute these randomly to your guests to read them. The winner is the person who the assembled guest vote for as the best reader.
This is in many ways a better option because it gets around the problem of those guests who will enjoy reading a poem but perhaps not so keen to write one themselves. Here, you can either write the poem yourself or use pre-written poems either from a book or printed out from the Internet. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Babies Come Into This World |
Babies come into the world brand new They have no preconceived notions of bottles and you Expecting love and giving it back, These little Angels see nothing you lack. They don't know when you're wondering if what you're doing is right Happiness comes from having you in sight. Don't worry your skills are shaky and new Your baby just wants you to be you. Feedings and diapers and car seats won't last The love that you show to your child says it best Take care of this little gift from above and everything is seen through her and your love. |

Babies Don't Keep |
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth, empty the dustpan, poison the moth, hang out the washing and butter the bread, sew on a button and make up a bed. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking. Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue (lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo). Dishes are waiting and bills are past due (pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo). The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo. Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue? (lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo). The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, for Children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep. |
But there are also other variations of the baby shower poem game.
For example, you could set up a wishing well corner displaying a poem of wishes for the mother and newborn baby and including a 'well' (jar) into which guests can put coins to help make the wish come true.
Once everybody has had an opportunity to make a wish the guests then guess how much money their is in the 'well' and the guest closest to the right amount wins a prize. The contents of the jar of course go to the guest of honor to help with the expense of the new baby.
I'm sure you will be able to think of many of your own variations of the poem game and don't forget of course that this is just one of the many games for baby showers including a pass the parcel baby shower game, baby shower trivia games, candy baby shower games, baby shower bingo games and even baby shower games for men
