The Disadvantages Of Home Schooling
As with most things in life there are both benefits and drawbacks and home schooling is no exception. If you are considering teaching your children at home then here are some of the more often quoted disadvantages of home schooling. These are not given in any particular order.
- You will need to be prepared to handle family and friends who will not agree with your decision to school your children at home.
- You will need to alter your lifestyle as adding in the element of home schooling will impact considerably on time which was previously very much your own.
- You will have to be prepared to do a fair amount of research, background reading, preparation and grading work, in addition to actually teaching your children.
- You will have to be prepared to seek out the help of others when you encounter problems and, if necessary, to bring in others to help with areas you are not able to cope with. This might include employing in-house or on-line tutors for some subjects.
- You will need to spend some money on your children's education.
- You will need to be patient at times when your children don't seem to be progressing or are falling behind.
- You will have to encourage your children at times when they are struggling. You will also need to encourage your children at times when you simply don't feel like it!
- You will need to get out and create opportunities for your children to meet other people and to socialize.
